IBM Program to Help with the Shortage of Nonprofit Leaders?

August 1, 2008

The Wall St. Journal’s MarketWatch reports that Bridgespan Group will work with executives from IBM who would like to transition to the nonprofit sector.  The Bridgespan Group is a nonprofit organization that provides strategy consulting and executive recruiting to other nonprofits.  The Group recently conducted a study, “The Nonprofit Sector’s Leadership Deficit,” that concluded that a deficit in leadership will continue to grow due to growth in the third sector and the retirement of the baby boomers.  The boomers provide a possible source of leadership, and a Bridgespan Group’s iniative, Bridgestar, seeks to help boomers who want to find meaningful work in the nonprofit sector.  The program will target senior employees and recent retirees and help them transition into “an encore career for the greater good.”  Bridgespan hopes the IBM collaboration will provide a model for other employers.
