What Are Foundations Going to Do?

I apologize for the late (and quick) post today–I had an ophthalmologist appointment this afternoon that took longer than I expected and my eyes are still a little dilated.

But I did want to highlight this Chronicle of Philanthropy story. As I was looking at the nonprofit news, one major theme is that Trump’s cuts (and attempted cuts) of spending are falling heavily on nonprofits. And the story asks whether charitable foundations are going to step up and help make up the funding.

The tl;dr seems to be that many have been quiet, trying not to draw the wrath of the Trump administration. But the MacArthur Foundation and the Freedom Together Foundation have announced that they will materially increase their giving. Is that going to open the floodgates for other foundations? We’ll see.
