AICU Report on Impact of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusettes

“Williams College, a private liberal arts school with about 2,000 undergraduate students in Massachusetts, announced on April 13 [2022] that they will eliminate loans and work-study jobs from all of its financial aid packages, and replace them with grants.”

I guess its par for the course that larger nonprofits, or smaller nonprofits’ trade associations, continually justify their tax exemptions by putting out beautifully formatted publications touting their positive impacts.  I am not cynical about it and I don’t suggest that all exempt orgs should be mandated to assess and report on their public benefit the way we require assessments and reports from nonprofit hospitals.  But its an advisable “best practice.” There are nearly 60 private colleges and universities in the Commonwealth and  Massachusetts’ Association of Independent Colleges and Universities is out with an a report detailing the economic impact those institutions have.  Here is page 1 of the Executive Summary:
