Nonprofits and the Partial Government Shutdown

TheChronicle of Philanthropy today is reporting the results of a nonscientificpoll conducted by the Nonprofit Finance Fund on the effects of the partial governmentshutdown on the nonprofit sector.  Of participatingnonprofits that receive federal aid, 43 percent of 97 respondents report that their payments have beendelayed, and 15 percent report that their payments have been halted.  Theremainder report either timely payments, or payments that are late, asusual.  Further poll results are that 18percent of respondents have ceased or reduced the scale of programs in responseto the shutdown, and 5 percent have terminated or furloughed employees.  Human-service and arts organizations reportedlycomprise a slim majority of the poll to date.
