3rd Circuit Affirms Conviction of Former State Senator Fumo For Theft from Nonprofit

We previously blogged about the federal trial and sentencing of former State Senator Vincent J. Fumo and his longtime aide and friend, Ruth Arnao, for stealing from the nonprofit Citizens’ Alliance for Better Neighborhoods.  Yesterday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit affirmed Fumo’s conviction on 137 counts of fraud, tax evasion, and obstruction of justice (Arnao did not appeal her conviction) and remanded both cases for re-sentencing based to correct certain procedural and factual errors.  The opinion provides a nice summary of the facts in the case, which involved steering public funds to the nonprofit and then using the nonprofit to provide numerous personal benefits.
