Download (25) Download (30)In National Rifle Association v. Vullo, the Supreme Court of the United States earlier this month unanimously held that the NRA had alleged sufficient facts to state a First Amendment claim against the former superintendent of the New York Department of Financial Services, reinstating the NRA’s lawsuit against that official. As summarized by the Court, the NRA’s complaint alleged that the state official had pressured entities regulated by her agency to “help her stifle the NRA’s pro-gun advocacy by threatening enforcement actions against those entities that refused to disassociate from the NRA and other gun-promotion advocacy groups,” One interesting aspect of the litigation was that the ACLU represented the NRA before the Supreme Court.
