Europe – The Infrastructure of Participation
The CEV [European VolunteerCentre] recently held a conference in Malmö, Sweden on “An Enabling Volunteering Infrastructure inEurope.” The purpose of the conferencewas to discuss the development of a stronger volunteering infrastructure, allowingmore individuals to take part in the political, social and economic environmentof Europe. The key roles of such aninfrastructure are “raising public awareness about volunteering; developingvolunteering opportunities and brokering between (potential) volunteers andplacements; developing good practice; working on policy response and thestrategic development of volunteering in our societies.”
The conference provided a number of workshops such as “Volunteeringin Southern and Eastern Europe (SEE) – from underground to mainstream” and“Volunteerinfrastructure in Italy: framework law on volunteering and the system ofvolunteer support centres (CSV).
