In March I posted about a bipartisan group of state officials who had written to GoFundMe concerned about the creation of charity donation webpages without the knowledge or consent of the named charities. Shortly after I wrote that post, Alaska Attorney General Stephen Cox filed a lawsuit on the same grounds against not only GoFundMe but also five other crowdfunding websites: Pay Pal, Charity Navigator, Just Giving, Pledge to, and Network for Good. The suits are based on alleged violations of Alaska’s Charitable Solicitation Act and its Unfair Trade Practices Act. For copies of the complaints, see the link provided in this For Purpose Law Group post about the lawsuit.
